Why Online Colleges Are so Great for Moms

Women do it all the time. They meet a man, fall in love, get married, and have children. While all this is happening, they often put their own lives on the back burner, putting everyone else before themselves. As they are sacrificing, they often say that as soon as their children are older they will make up for lost time. Many times, the first thing these women say they want to do is to go back to school and finish getting a college degree.
Moms all over the world always seem to say they want to go back to school and get their college degree, but it never quite seems to happen. First, when the children are just babies, the demands of the newborn combine with the lack of sleep to make it impossible for the mothers to even think about going back to school. When the children are toddlers, the high cost of day care and babysitting often discourages the mother from signing up for classes.
The next thing these mothers know, their children are in school themselves and suddenly it's soccer games, parent teacher conferences, and music lessons that take up all their spare time. Before they know it, their children are in high school and the demand for the parent’s time becomes even greater. Next comes their college career and the mother discovers that there is no extra money to pay for both her child’s tuition as well as her own.
Online colleges are great way for mothers to break the cycle.
Although the initial cost is a little higher then traditional colleges, online colleges and universities tend to be little cheaper when you consider the lack of housing and commuting expenses. Parents are better able to afford online colleges when they realize that, by taking classes online, they no longer have to pay the high cost of day care or for a babysitter to sit with their child while they're taking classes. While it is difficult to receive federal funding for online colleges, many of them offer scholarships to help offset the costs tuition and, if the parents happen to be working, many employers now offer to cover the cost of continuing education.
The flexibility of online college classes allows parents to work around their children's time schedules. While the children are young, parents can study and finish homework during nap times, playtime, and grandparent times. Once the children are in school and the parents find themselves overwhelmed by school commitments, they can use their laptop and take their schoolwork along with them, studying in between band concerts, choir recitals, drama practice, ballet lessons, and the football games.
It is important for parents that are taking online college classes to established guidelines with the rest of the household. If your children are old enough, explain that it is very important for both your futures to study hard and receive your college degree. Set aside time that is reserved for you, time where everyone else in your family knows that you are not to be disturbed so you can concentrate on studying.
Remember this, just because you're going to school doesn’t mean you should allow your studies to consume your life. Your family is still your number one priority. In addition to scheduling time for your study, it is a good idea to also schedule time to simply enjoy your family. By doing this, everyone will feel like they're contributing to your educational needs.
