Newly Graduated High School Students
Campus and Online College Search
You are ready to graduate high school or have already graduated and need some advice on what to do next. The choice is simple; ask yourself one question: How will you make money to support yourself?
You are at a very opportunistic point in your life and the world is just waiting for you to dive in. Just like we were taught in grade school, you CAN be ANYTHING you want to be! Take some time and discover what you are good at. Think about what you like to do or what peeks your interests to find your talents or calling in life.
I like to encourage all graduates of high school to go to college immediately after finishing high school classes and get it out of the way! You are already on a roll and believe me; it would be much easier to finish ALL of your schooling and learning now. It takes discipline and dedication to continue, but it takes even more discipline and dedication to go back later on in life. I know people that have waited to achieve thier degrees later in life and they all say in hindsight they should have finished college after graduating high school or they should have finished what they started at 18 and quit. They could have been what they wanted to be instead of what they became to be due to the job they got and not the career they chose.
Don't be discouraged, not everyone knows what or who they want to be or other circumstances prevent them from doing what they want. There are other avenues. Check out my pages on financial aid and student loans. Most of this is deferred until after you graduate, if you have to pay it back at all.
Consider becoming an intern at a firm or business that holds your interest. This is a great way to find out if you are suited to work in the field you have chosen. It is possible that you want to be a chef, but after working in a kitchen you realize it is just not your style. Internships are fantastic in many ways. They provide income, knowledge and the first line of work experience on your resume.
The main point is to DO SOMETHING! Don't get stuck to one thing either, be flexible until you find what is right for you. It is out there; you just need to find it.
My site includes some great assessment tests, college ideas and fun things that could provide insight and ideas you might not have thought of. Let your fingers do the walking and check it out.
